Regular Activities

  • Weekly VHF Nets
Currently the District 24 ARES VHF net meets every Thursday evening at 20:00 on the 147.225 repeater, with a backup frequency of 447.150MHz (107.2Hz tone, -5MHz offset) and 145.145MHz (107.2Hz tone) in case of backup repeater unavailability. This is a formal net that is open to all amateurs interested in emergency communications. The ARES District 24 emergency coordinator, assistant coordinators, and specialists give brief reports on current issues of interest to the group. An informal "after-net" training segment and informal "chat time" provides an opportunity to discuss specific topics.

  • Monthly Face-to-Face Meetings
The monthly "face-to-face" meetings currently occur on the fourth Thursday of every month at 19:00. Meeting locations are announced during the weekly VHF net and on this web site (see home page). These meetings are open to all amateurs interested in emergency communications. Announcements are shared followed by a presentation on a topic of interest to the group. For example, recent topics included presentations on high altitude ballooning, The Red Cross, the Disaster Response Team (DRT) and Douglas County Search & Rescue.

  • Periodic Training Workshops
Half-day training sessions are periodically held on Saturday mornings. A while back a "build-your-own" copper pipe J-pole antenna workshop was held and more than a dozen antennas were constructed and tuned with RF test equipment. Other workshops include a packet radio field exercise and a comprehensive member training course.

  • Annual SET Exercises
The ARRL "Simulated Emergency Test" (SET) is a nationwide exercise for emergency communications. The SET weekend provides an opportunity for amateurs to gain experience in emergency communications using standard procedures and a variety of operating modes under simulated emergency conditions.

  • Hamfest Calendar
Various Hamfests are organized each year and they provide a great opportunity to meet fellow HAM's and find that part you have been looking for. VE's usually provide exams on-site for those who want to upgrade their 'ticket' or want to enter this wonderful hobby. Click on the button below to see what's going on in our state.
