  10. Describe the Goals of the Activity
    • At the request of Both Douglas and Elbert County’s, District 24 was asked to staff 13 key locations that operated as Y2K Information Locations where citizens could request information or request assistance in the event that any Y2K related outages occurred. Our goal was to form a communications network to provide support to these Y2K information stations, and to provide communications links to emergency services agencies within the counties.

  11. Did the Event Fulfill the Goals?
    • Yes, our goals were accomplished and we were complimented on our professional communications.

  12. What Went Well?
    • Our ability to construct a robust radio communications network and manage the traffic across that facility.

  13. Areas needing improvement
    • Our ability to construct and mount portable outside antennas to operate from a variety of physical building conditions.

  14. Lessons learned
    • Never assume that locations will be good operating positions simply because they are within a repeater’s signal footprint.

  15. Additional training needed
    • Portable outside antennas for field operations

  16. General comments
    • We want to acknowledge the 25 citizen volunteers that assisted us in staffing the Y2K Information Locations. These non-ham volunteers were an integral part of our activity. District 24 cooperated with the Douglas County Emergency Preparedness Group, which is an organization of citizens dedicated to preparing our community for emergencies and disasters.

  17. Ideas for future exercises
    • (None provided.)
